Why I love working with Dell...

I don't think many of our clients understand how well Dell has embraced the channel over the past year.  They've followed suit behind HP who was in this position 10 years ago...and really are working hard to let us sell their product.

Now, I don't know if you as one of our clients/friends realize how big this is.  Chances are if I speak to 10 clients, 6 out of 10 uses Dell in at least one way.  Two years ago, it was a chore to sell their desktops and servers, let alone printers.  Now, we've got printers in stock ready to ship right alongside desktops and laptops...that's HUGE.  Heck, right now there's a decent little mono printer the 1130 Single User...normally $120, now down to $76!  Right now if you're looking at adding 5-10 printers over the year, let me know and I can talk to our Dell rep about getting a demo unit out to you right away.  Never hurts to try things right?  Options are good, and their product is good!

So there you have it...we have their products stocked and ready to ship...on the equipment side of things that's a great thing to have.  If you have Dell in your environment, give us a call and talk to us.  We have an amazing team who can help you grow the way you want to grow...with Dell. :)

(Don't think HP is slouching...they're going to throw us some major stuff tomorrow with the quarter ending...so if you're an HP user, or just want an awesome deal, keep your eyes peeled here tomorrow for something cool. :) )

Service is King

Howdy folks!  I know that I've spoken with many of my clients about services that PC Mall offers, and some of you can speak to effect about how much we can do.  Really, everyone needs help at one time or another.  Whether it's needing a helpdesk to answer questions, finding temporary help for large projects, fixing how a switch closet is laid out, implementing a project (VOIP/datacenter upgrade/VMWare/etc.), and many other things...PC Mall can help you solve these problems.

Most often I hear, "I didn't know you did that" and that's a fair assessment...sometimes it's a little daunting to explain what we can do.  However that problem is a thing of the past.  This video from Phil Mogavero, our VP of Advanced Technology Solutions at PC Mall, helps explain some of our primary strengths.  Anything outside of those, we usually have a partner we work with to affect solutions.  Take a look and let me know what you think.  I'm always game to understand clients' thoughts when it comes to what we can do better for business.

Have a great Friday and Weekend, and we'll see you back here on Monday! :)

PC Mall in the Wall Street Journal!

That's right...HP is running an ad for their new ultrabook, the Folio, this Friday and next Tuesday in the Wall Street Journal...and PC Mall is a part of that ad.  I'm always happy to see our partners working with us (and others in our industry) in order to help increase everyone's awareness of new products and how to get them.  The Ultrabook is a new format that combines the power of a true laptop, with a unit that weighs less than a half gallon of milk.

The Folio is 18mm tall, weighs 3.3 lbs, and is a core i5 unit.  That's a great product for someone who is always on the go, but needs a real laptop that'll work business applications.  Salespeople, executives, and even IT personnel who run from site to site all make good candidates for an ultrabook.  Right now, the 13" Folio is priced at $999.

Give us a call or shoot over an email if you've got questions!

Symantec Backup becomes even easier to manage...

First of All...Happy Holidays! :)

I know I've mentioned this product briefly before, but the Symantec Backup Exec 3600 appliance is a new product from the acclaimed security company.  Not only are they providing their great BE software for your backup needs, but this appliance also has the capability to store it FOR you.  Also, no longer would you have to allocate space on your servers or in your storage to push your backups to.  This device will help manage and control it for you.

It's integrated deduplication, granular recovery and Virtual Machine protection (for VMWare and Hyper-V) does reduce your storage and use costs that come up over time with your backups.  Really, we all know that your backup procedures are always taxing on your time, and create a drag on your day that you could better utilize.

Why not take some time next week on December 14, and attend our Symantec 3600 webinar?  It's a free training on this product and it'll help you to better understand what the unit can do for you.

Before you ask...no, it does not make your teeth and laundry whiter, while doing your taxes and walking the dog...but all of those things could get done in the time you're fiddling with your Backup Solution, if you utilized the Symantec 3600.

(While some of you might think I'm shilling for this...I'm actually not.  I've been impressed with what I've seen, and if it can help make your lives easier, then I'm all for it.  Tell me I'm wrong and why. :) )

Symantec Smackdown

Image representing Symantec as depicted in Cru...

Tonight on Symantec Smackdown...in the red corner, weighing in at 150 lbs of dusty old server equipment...YOUR BACKUP SYSTEM!  And...in the Gold corner...weighing in at a sleek 29 lbs....the Symantec BE6300!

All kidding aside, I had a chance to learn a bit more about this new appliance from Symantec the other day.  What?  You didn't know that Symantec actually has a hardware solution for backup?  The BE 6300 is designed to take all that is good about your Symantec Backup System (easy to use software, quick backup process, etc) and sell it to you all in a box with the hardware to store it and manage it.  We all want something simple, and this is most assuredly that.

We all know the issues with backup really relate to the hardware that's available.  You have to add drives for more storage, you have to make sure your system is up to date and able to run it, and of course you have to buy agents to replicate & deduplicate.  Not so here.  Take a look at this list of what comes on the box, and what's optional...and all of those licenses are unlimited in scope.  AND...the box has a total of 5.5TB of storage for your backups.  That'll keep you not worrying for awhile right?

Want more information?  Let's get on the phone with my Symantec BDM expert, Walaa Al-Saadi, today! :)

Greener Memory

One of the best parts about working here, is the amazing people I get to meet.  My Kingston rep, Bryan Miltner, has been a wealth of information and assistance over the years here.  He recently turned me on to the Kingston RedTech blog, which is FULL of information about...well you guessed it...memory.

Before your eyes start to spin at the the techno-babble...start here with this article on DDR3L memory, and how low power can help you save in the long run.  Servers running all the time just eat into any company's power bill...and if you can bring it down a tick or two...you get to be the hero.

I just want to help get you there.  Let me know what you think!

Amazing Free Stuff: Blade Chassis from IBM

by Thaddeus Dilday

There is no such thing as a free lunch. But you can get a free Blade chassis from IBM.  Many of my customers want to reduce cost by grouping their servers into a blade.  This can add cost to the price of upgrading servers.  If you are new to IBM or have not purchased in a year you can qualify for a complimentary chassis.  Your PC Mall rep will be happy to schedule a call with our IBM guru to answer all questions about this phenomenal program.
