LG Cloud Displays provide shady rest on a blistering hot network...

Zero Client?  Why does that sound like a VERY bad sales month? ;)    If you’ve noticed, there’s a huge move towards VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) in which lighter end-clients run virtually through VMWare or Citrix solutions, take a lot of the workload off of a traditional desktop infrastructure and place it onto a virtual infrastructure.   The traditional way to utilize a VDI infrastructure, or a terminal-based one is through thin clients or zero clients.  The market on these right now is in flux as VDI is coming to the forefront, so expect prices to go up in the next 4-5 months as more and more companies look into this as a potential setup to decrease costs.

One of my most favorite partners, LG, has their own set of zero clients, and I wanted to show all of you what they’re able to do in a nutshell.  Their products utilize the same Teradici chip that other thin clients and zero clients us…and some of these units are PCoIP specific for users that have only VMWare.  What it breaks down to, is a virtual desktop setup built right into a 19” – 22” LG display.  Of course these have a minimum 3 year warranty that can be extendable further if necessary.

The three units to pay attention to are: N1910LZ, N2210WZ, and the N2311AZ.  Take a look at the video below for some more information.  Interested and want to talk to one of the BEST manufacturer reps ever?  Let me know and we can talk to my good friend Tiffany over at LG...she'll be able to get you on the road to Zero Client Cloud Monitors.  Take a look here for an informational PDF too.

Thanks! :)

AND...Windows 8 Preview releases :)

Yup...looks like our friends were right.  Jump over to Microsoft's site and pick up the preview here.

Still no preview for Windows 8 RT...dammit.   ;)

Windows 8 Preview May Be TODAY!

Howdy folks!  Have to credit Dragontech Team Member Dwight Tabangcura, who spotted this late last night from our friends over at Neowin's page.  Like their article hints at, the Windows Hardware & Driver Development blog had a now deleted post that stated the Windows 8 preview was releasing today.

While that's all conjecture now, and they may have yanked it because it wasn't true...it's something to keep your eye out for.  Windows 8 is going to be useful in many ways...personally I'm waiting on the ARM version so I can reconfigure my HP Touchpad with it.  (I love webOS, it's just sad how HP's dropped it like a hot potato.)

Keep your eyes peeled loyal readers...if you see a chance to get in on it, let me know.  (It's the end of the month and we're all jamming the phones to make sure no stone goes unturned with our clients.)

Make it a great Thursday! :)

J5 Gadget - Wormhole Switch

Just watch this and be amazed!

Wait! Backup?

How long does your Backup take? Too Long? Some tech I have been talking to are real disappointed with the limited data streams of Symantecs backup product. Also the price.

Novastor has a great little backup solution that can backup Windows, Linux, VMware VMs and Unix environments.

Call your PC Mall rep today to get a Product Expert on the phone and get a start on the reduction of your Backup time and software dollars.

TheWikiBoat & DDoS attacks today!

For those of you who haven't seen this yet, you'd be well advised.  Now while it looks like they're going to be attacking MAJOR corporations, it does make me want to ask the question of you...

When was the last time you updated your firewall?  If you've got a Cisco firewall, is your Smartnet up to date?  When was your last firmware installation?  Many more questions as well.  There's always a solution, and if you aren't sure, ASK US.  We've got backend experts on Cisco (gold certified), HP (primary partner), Sonicwall (they're owned by Dell now)...and heck I can even talk to you about Meraki's options.

Most important thing is that you're up to date, and protected...no matter how big your company is.

Let me help you...let's talk about it.  Click the contact button, or give me a call  (541 351 8845).

Mobile Web Content...brought to you by...

The US Government?  Those guys who still think a Fax is an acceptable method of transmitting data?  Yup them.  Apparently, our president has made it a mandate for government agencies to make all information available to US citizens on their mobile devices.  Now as many of you know, this does require that special mobile sites be created and the like...but is this a necessary immediate step?  For our government, anything faster than a hobbled elephant is too fast, but maybe this political cynic will be proven wrong.  (I REALLY hope so.)

While the US Government is moving on getting things up on mobile platforms, it appears that internet ne're-do-wells (aka hackers) are doing their best to take information down off of those platforms.  This great little article discusses that and how Apple is now under attack.  Apple-ites should now ask their Microsoft friends for a hug, it's going to get ugly before it gets better.  While I'm no fan of McAfee's statistics, they are sound and something to take seriously.

If you're investing in a mobile platform and workforce, I'd recommend staying away from Android and working with Apple's iPad.  As I mentioned in another article (and it's covered above), the number of threats to Android platforms was 600 in 2011, and has jumped to over 7,000 threats in the first half of 2012.

Need help managing or looking into how to plan a mobile setup and how to manage those devices?  Give I and my team here a call/email.  We're very good about helping you find out what you want to do...and get you started on that path.

Chrome Leapfrogs IE!

Well howdy folks...something of interest just crossed my plate.  (Thank you Michael Winton!)

According to this article here, it looks like Google Chrome just surpassed Internet Explorer as the most popular browser on the market.  Here's a look at their survey chart...

It's pretty interesting to say the least...but then Microsoft is embedded everywhere with Windows.  It's not like that stuff is going away any time soon...and actually using it lately has been surprisingly a good experience.  With the exception of the folks at Firefox (who apparently decided a browser that's slower than a toaster is a good idea), Microsoft and Google are working hard to better our Internet experiences. :)

Wednesday Wins: APC SMT750

Howdy folks!  Welcome to a new section I'm going to throw out each week.  Deals are deals, and in order to make sure we pass them along to you, AND still give you as much tech news as we can find the time to post...I'm going to create a weekly column for those "wins".

So this week, I wanted to toss over the fence the APC SMT750.  A nice UPS device for sure, but getting one for under $300 wasn't easy.  Right now through the end of June though...the going retail price has dropped to $240...and if you ask one of us nicely, I'm sure we can bring it even lower for you.

For those of you who aren't fans of APC...and you're out there...take a look at Cyberpower.  They're the ones who added LCD to the mix on UPS units, and they're going strong.  Their competitive unit to the SMT750 is their CP850.  There are excellent deals on this unit as well right now, bringing that price down below $150.

Those are the small units.  Need bigger ones?  Just give us a call and let's talk about it.  Your power isn't a joke, and it's one of the things in your datacenter that can make or break you at the right moment in time.  Let's talk about what you need to do to be up to speed on your power.

Have a great Wednesday! :)

Uberconference brings a unique solution

Good morning!

I actually was turned onto this by our local news at KTLA here in Los Angeles.  Rich Demuro mentioned it this morning...and I was quite surprised at what he said, so the second I got to the office (before I started work), I had to check it out.

Lo and behold, I think this has promise.  An online conference call management tool, that lets you see who is talking, and learn more about them through social media.  Click the link below and check it out.  While it hasn't released yet, get involved now while it's in beta...see what it is.  I've got a good feeling about it!

Check out Uberconference here!

Remember to make it a great day! :)

Email Archiving...or "It's your neck"

Howdy folks...long time no talk.  The end of April was challenging to say the least, and I've only fully recovered from it now...except for the cuts and bruises, those will heal over time. :)

One of the things I've been interested in for awhile and that I'm trying to pass on to my clients is Email Archiving.  Now I'm sure you're saying to yourself, "but we already backup our emails"...and that's likely true.  There is a significant difference between the two, and it's a common misunderstanding, so with Barracuda's help, let me show you.

What?  You don't want to read a whitepaper?  Ok let me sum that up for you.  Archiving is for long-term, indexable and searchable retention...and Backup is taking a snapshot of what you have at a particular point in time, and being able to restore with that backup.   That is looking at it in a simple way, but it's very true.

Now I mentioned the fine folks at Barracuda...while you may remember them for their fantastic security & content control products, Email Archiving is an area where they excel in.  Their standard device, the Message Archiver, provides several tools to assist the user in maintaining their email archive...even doing the importing itself, giving you time to get that extra cup of coffee or chat with your office buddies about how the Dodgers are going to have a better season.

Make sure you jump over here to their online demo of the product.  Take a look, something like this IS worth your time to invest. :)

Questions?  Click the Contact link or shoot me an email.  I'd love to hear from you!
